Tdot Batu Celebrates 10 Years!


We have a big jam ready for you to come and celebrate with Tdot Batu, with international and local guests to make the night unforgettable!

TDot Batu is a tightly knit Afro-Brazilian percussion batucada inspired by the power and dedicated to the study of the rich rhythmic tradition born out of the fusion of samba and reggae from Salvador, Bahia. As integral part of the Toronto Tropical music scene we collaborate with members of the arts and music community to create spectacular participatory celebrations that reflect the vast colour and energy of Brazilian culture. Toronto's premier Samba Reggae Band is celebrating 10 years!!!!

Mateus Vidal
Born in Salvador, Mateus Fernando Vidal began a brilliant career that has lasted more than 23 years playing percussion with Olodum. In 2009 he became lead singer for the legendary ensemble and has since performed with artists like Zezé de Camargo and Luciano, Luiza Possi, Michel Teló, Gilberto Gil, Ivete Sangalo, Daniela Mercury, Carlinhos Brown, Andrew Tosh, Inner Cicle among others. Mateus has just moved to Canada from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil and he has been doing shows with TDot Batu thought the summer in Toronto.

Pierre Jr.
Singer and songwriter, 24 years old, graduated in music. Started singing on stage in 2016 participating in shows, carnival, tv and radio shows in the band Afrodisiaco. In 2018, he participated in the Brazilian Day in Orlando and Utah (USA) and corporate events in Miami. Today he lives in Toronto, where he has been playing different shows in the city.

Cibelle Iglesias
Brazilian queen with a powerful voice and amazing energy that makes everybody jump. Cibelle has performed many times with TDot Batu through the years, she is part of the family already and we couldn't celebrate with out her!!!

Salviano Pessoa
Baiano from Salvador, Salviano is an incredible artist that has an electrifying show every time we play together with TDot Batu, He has been part of our history since the beginning, we haven't play for a while but we are super happy to have him in our show for our 10 years! Get ready to have an awesome time with Salviano bringing the vibes from Salvador, Bahia to Toronto!

Lady Son
One of the most arresting voices on the Canadian music scene, often drawing comparisons to music legend Celia Cruz, Lady Son (aka Yeti Ajasin), brings a powerful yet gentle contemporary voice to the rich vocal and percussion traditions of Afro-Cuban music – with messages of everyday life, love and the issues that affect us all.

Toño Monedero
Born in Madrid 1980. Drummer, percussionist and producer. He has worked with nationally renowned artists and groups and tours throughout the Spanish territory and abroad: Huecco, Alcohol jazz, Lazurda, Desechos, Mr Kilombo, Amasumbu, Dremen, Raza Guaya, The Refrescos, LCD Funk Collective, Laimposible, Niños Velcro, Mad Division, Ogun Afrobeat, Blueskank, Potato Omelette Band, Ara Musa Honra…….. Recording albums with many of these groups.
He began studying with 14 years in Hardrum (Madrid) and throughout his life he has studied in Drummers Collective (New York) and with many drum and percussion teachers: Miguel Ferreira, Juanma Barroso, Salvador Niebla, Pedro Pablo (Cuba), Fernando Marconi (Brazil), Pau Martinez, Aboubakar Syla (Guinea Conakry), Tatita ”Márquez» (Uruguay), Frank (Yoruba Andabo-Cuba) and many others.

Boogat
Canadian-Mexican musician from Quebec City, Quebec, whose style blends hip hop with Latin music styles such as cumbia and reggaeton. He won the Juno Award for World Music Album of the Year for his album Neo-Reconquista at the Juno Awards of 2016 and the ADISQ Awards of 2016.

Chellz
Mc from Montreal , of Salvadorian descent, his artist catalog is mostly in Spanish and is embedded with conscious powerful lyrics over a natural freestyle flow over black and brown urban immigrant culture. He just launched his first EP solo name el paseo del alma.

Dj Poirier
Ghislain Poirier, often known simply as Poirier, is a Canadian DJ/producer from Montreal who is signed to the Ninja Tune record label. He has, however, also worked with other labels such as Chocolate Industries, Rebondir, Shockout, Musique Large, Intr_version and 12k. His work mainly consists of original instrumental mixes and mixes featuring Montreal hip hop MCs including Omnikrom, Face-T and Séba. He also has collaborated with Beans, TTC, Lotek HiFi and Nik Myo. He is noted for popular remixes of tracks of rock and hip hop artists such as Les Georges Leningrad, Clipse, Editors, Bonde do Rolê, Kid Sister, Pierre Lapointe, DJ Champion and Lady Sovereign. Though he has worked in many different genres of electronic music, he is known for his eclectic taste in music and appreciation of tropical bass sounds.

Uma Nota Culture is a registered not-for-profit whose mandate is to foster the landscape for diverse music in Canada, and provide creative avenues for expression for both artists and revellers. UNC events are designed to be safe, accessible, friendly, and fun, broadening the audience of under-represented artists, especially those performing music in languages other than English, giving a platform for cross-cultural understanding, and cross-genre experimentation.

Uma Nota Culture was founded in 2007 as a unique monthly event series in west-end Toronto, focusing on Afro-Brazilian, Latin, Caribbean, funk and soul music provided by both live acts and DJs. Uma Nota hosts concerts, festivals, block parties, film screenings, panel discussions, and workshops. Unpretentious, open-minded, lively and fun, Uma Nota is a place where people come together to dance, united by a polyrhythmic, tropical vibe.
