About Folk Unlocked:
In place of an in-person conference this year, FAI is hosting Folk Unlocked, a five-day virtual event for the entire international folk community to come together for panels, workshops, showcases, affinity and peer group meetings, exhibit spaces, networking, and mentorship. We are unlocking the doors and windows of the house of folk to be as broad and inclusive as possible, inviting those who have been loyally attending Folk Alliance International conferences for years while aiming to reach folk musicians and professionals who have never benefited from or attended FAI before.
About Lulaworld:
Through a constellation of mutually supportive initiatives, Lula Music and Arts Centre (LMAC) fosters a thriving community of Latin, Brazilian and global roots music, musicians and audiences in Toronto & beyond.
Through concerts, festivals, workshops, community outreach, cultural exchanges and artist development, as well as video and sound recordings released on the Lulaworld label, LMAC serves as an incubator for new projects, collaborations and approaches, encouraging musical excellence, experimentation and cross-cultural pollination.
Lula Music's home in Toronto is the colourful, eclectically elegant venue Lula Lounge, where pre-COVID, we presented 200 concerts annually in addition to an increasing number of special concerts across the city and across the country.
About Uma Nota:
Uma Nota Culture is a reference point for world citizens and lovers of music and culture. The organization’s mandate is to foster the landscape for diverse music in Canada, and provide creative avenues for expression for both artists and revellers. UNC events are designed to be safe, accessible, friendly, and fun, broadening the audience of under-represented artists, especially those performing music in languages other than English, giving a platform for cross-cultural understanding, and cross-genre experimentation.
UNC was founded in 2007 as a unique monthly event series in west-end Toronto, focusing on Afro-Brazilian, Latin, Caribbean, funk and soul music provided by both live acts and DJs. Uma Nota has hosted over 90 events in 14 years, including concerts, festivals, block parties, film screenings, panel discussions, and workshops. Unpretentious, open-minded, lively and fun, Uma Nota is a place where people come together to dance, united by a polyrhythmic, tropical vibe.
